I was talking with some friends of mine over lunch the other day, remembering our days in college, talking about our lives then and our lives now, talking about \u2013 yes you guessed it, men in general and she recalled one of our many escapades years ago.<\/p>\n\n

A whole group of us, the \u2018it\u2019 girls so to say, were invited for a party in a city about 316 km (196.3 miles) away from campus.<\/p>\n\n

The party took place in an area known for its mountainous terrain and chilly weather. True to the audacity and adventurous nature of youth it was held in the middle of the night, smack dab in a valley, surrounded by mountains.<\/p>\n\n

There were guys, there were girls, there were drinks, and to create the right atmosphere and I guess also because of how cold it was, a large bonfire had been lit and college students in various stages of inebriation swayed, danced or sat around the fire.<\/p>\n\n

Research says men have xx words and women xxxxxxxxxx. Really?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

The funny thing is we couldn\u2019t remember getting there, but this is what is printed indelibly on her mind \u2013 as she sat by the fire sipping a gin and lime, she felt a pair of eyes on her, she looked up, and across the fire she saw a really good-looking guy staring at her. She said that she couldn\u2019t really explain why, but there was just something about that moment, the night, the night air, the fire, the woozy feeling from being slightly tipsy, that moment was just\u2026 magical and romantic.<\/p>\n\n

Later neither of them could quite agree on who stared at the other across the fire first.<\/p>\n\n

Each one of us had some story to share, (won\u2019t tell you which ones mine).<\/p>\n\n

Scenario 2. A Levels, a movie, waiting for the movie to start, so many people, boys and girls, not enough seats so much noise in the makeshift theatre. You\u2019d have to shout to be heard. This guy from class comes over to another one of us and whispers in her ear, \u201cwould you like me to get you a chair?\u201d. His hot breath on her ear for some strange reason she remembers till today.<\/p>\n\n

And 3, this guy takes one of my girlfriends out for a movie, he\u2019s staring at her and so she says to him, \u201caren\u2019t you watching the movie?\u201d. He replies, \u201cyou watch the movie, I\u2019ll watch you, it\u2019s ok\u201d<\/p>\n\n

We all came to the conclusion that, it\u2019s a good feeling being pursued. Women you feel me? For some reason we just love to be pursued.<\/p>\n\n

That fact that you know, that you know, that you know, that this guy really wants you and is ready willing and able to take the necessary steps to try to have you. It gives a feeling of power, a feeling of being desired, it\u2019s heady, giddy, it\u2019s exciting, it\u2019s flattering it\u2019s\u2026 unreal?<\/p>\n\n

Fast forward 5, 10, 15 years later, in marriage, and even if you came out in ashes and sackcloth, shaved your head, rimmed your eyes round with white chalk like a witch doctor and announced loudly \u201cI\u2019m ready\u201d, he\u2019d probably not look up but say something like \u201cabout time too, let\u2019s go, we\u2019re late\u201d.<\/p>\n\n

The question is, and I\u2019m asking this sincerely, why can\u2019t the pursuit resulting in this heady, exciting, giddy feeling at least for us women be taken into marriage, and even if it could, should it?<\/p>\n\n

I read or heard somewhere (can\u2019t remember where) that \u201cHappily Ever After\u201d is a story that hasn\u2019t ended yet. True talk! How come all the things he did to get you, he refuses or claims he doesn\u2019t know how to do, to keep you? Guys can you hear me? Answers please.<\/p>\n\n

Remember when he\u2019d call you on the phone and speak for hours on end about everything and anything under the sun. Now you can barely get a decipherable grunt out of him on a good day, on a bad day just a glare.<\/p>\n\n

Research says men have xx words and women xxxxxxxxxx. Really? Funny this wasn\u2019t the case when you were, to use the old-fashioned word\u2026 \u2018wooing me\u2019. When you\u2019d ask where I was going, how long I was going to be there, could you pick me up, have dinner, just see me. Wow, how times change.<\/p>\n\n

Or take for instance the fact that when you got dressed up to go anywhere, he\u2019d take a long hard look at you from the top to the bottom, (not bottom, bottom, that too, but I\u2019m talking about to your feet), and say something, that each time you\u2019d remember it during the course of the evening and even for some weeks to come, you\u2019d blush and feel tingly all over.<\/p>\n\n

A series I watched on telly, a beautiful woman came out all dressed up and her honey said, \u201cif that\u2019s my birthday present (meaning her), I can\u2019t wait to unwrap it\u201d. Guess that\u2019s just \u2018in the movies\u2019.<\/p>\n\n

There are so many I can think of but let\u2019s look at this last one \u2018cos I guess by now guys and gals alike you\u2019ve got the picture.<\/p>\n\n

How about the fact that even after a hard day at work in the evenings you couldn\u2019t wait to get me out of whatever I was in and make love to me. After this hard day at work, we could cuddle up and watch a movie. Despite work, we could talk, laugh, play, fight and makeup. What has changed?<\/p>\n\n

I guess like I said at the beginning of this article, \u2018\u2026unreal\u2019? \u2018Only in the movies\u2019.<\/p>\n\n

Maybe love just changes, fades, and matures.<\/p>\n\n
